An update on the Child of Wales Awards 2022

Date: 6th January 2022 | By: national

It is with a heavy heart we find ourselves once again in the hands of another variant of the pandemic and having to consider a way of safely celebrating our winners of 2020. You will remember we have been forced to postpone this event twice from April 2020 to January 2022. And, now with the virus raging - sadly here we are again.

As you may be aware, before Christmas we were discussing the future of the event with our sponsors and stakeholders and are so disappointed that we are finding ourselves in this situation for the 3rd time. On 22nd December the Welsh government announced further restrictions on socialising, and unfortunately the Child of Wales Awards falls into that category. We feel strongly we can’t leave it any longer to honour our winners, and we are working tirelessly to provide the best outcome for everyone.

We were liaising with Celtic Manor to assess if we are able to look at a possible new date in the future, but unfortunately, we have met resistance and rising costs of 43%. These new costs will come into force even if the event is forced to be cancelled by the Government.

With the above in mind, we are sad to announce that we must move the event in January from Celtic Manor. Please note, if you have booked a room at Celtic Manor using our block code either in 2020 or 2021, you will receive a refund. Refunds were processed on 30th December and will take 10 days to clear.

We are working with a couple of remarkable venues and feel confident we’ll have a new date for your diary in the coming weeks. We have also secured some incredible performers who are keen to support us.

We are still committed to raising funds for our charities - NSPCC, Teenage Cancer Trust, Dreams & Wishes and the Bluestone Foundation.

Your continued support and patience have enabled the Child of Wales Awards to be kept alive for two years and through some very strange times.
