Date: 26th September 2022 | By: national

The Child of Wales Awards are taking place on Friday 24th March 2023 at Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff, and they will celebrate the achievements and inspirational stories of amazing children and young people across the Wales.

Nominations closed just over two weeks ago and over 200 entries were received, covering children of courage, Environmental Champions, Young Sporting heroes and Young leaders – the stories are incredible.

Such wonderful and inspiring stories need a special judging panel to help honour them, and much time and effort has gone into selecting those very judges.

The Child of Wales Awards are pleased to announce the 2023 judging panel:

  • Social Impact Lead at headline sponsors, Principality Building Society, James Harper
  • Brand Ambassador at Event Partner, The Trade Centre Wales, Mike Doyle
  • Commercial Director at Environmental Champion sponsor, Bluestone National Park Resorts, Pamela McNamara
  • Owner of Mark Jermin Management and Mark Jermin Stage School, Mark Jermin
  • Olympic sprinter and hurdler, Colin Jackson CBE
  • Broadcaster, journalist and ITV Cymru weather presenter, Ruth Dodsworth
  • Welsh Rugby Legend, Jonathan Davies OBE

The stories have been so strong, the panel of Judges certainly have their work cut out for them!

The Judges were handed the nominations on Monday 7th November and they will review them over the next few weeks - the group will submit their chosen winners towards the end of November and then award founders Mark and Blanche Sainsbury and Events Director Ashleigh Kerr will review and put all final confirmations in place.

All entrants into the awards have special stories, and each entrant will receive a certificate of achievement to honour them. The winners in each category will be contacted directly during the week commencing 5th December.

Blanche Sainsbury, Founder of the awards, said:

“This is the second year of the awards and we have been blown away by the nominations we have received. The stories we have read have been so moving and so inspirational, we can’t wait to see who the judges pick as their winners. It is certainly not a task we envy!

We are grateful to each and every judge who has given up their time to help us honour the remarkable young people of Wales. We look forward to shining a light on our winners at the awards in March”
